The President was bothered to death by those persons who boisterously demanded that the War be pushed vigorously; also, those who shouted their advice and opinions into his weary ears, but who never suggested anything practical. These fellows were not in the army, nor did they ever take any interest, in a personal way, in military matters, except when engaged in dodging drafts.

“That reminds me,” remarked Mr. Lincoln one day, “of a farmer who lost his way on the Western frontier. Night came on, and the embarrassments of his position were increased by a furious tempest which suddenly burst upon him. To add to his discomfort, his horse had given out, leaving him exposed to all the dangers of the pitiless storm.

“The peals of thunder were terrific, the frequent flashes of lightning affording the only guide on the road as he resolutely trudged onward, leading his jaded steed. The earth seemed fairly to tremble beneath him in the war of elements. One bolt threw him suddenly upon his knees.

“Our traveler was not a prayerful man, but finding himself involuntarily brought to an attitude of devotion, he addressed himself to the Throne of Grace in the following prayer for his deliverance:

“‘O God! hear my prayer this time, for Thou knowest it is not often that I call upon Thee. And, O Lord! if it is all the same to Thee, give us a little more light and a little less noise.’

“I wish,” the President said, sadly, “there was a stronger disposition manifested on the part of our civilian warriors to unite in suppressing the rebellion, and a little less noise as to how and by whom the chief executive office shall be administered.”

A maxim that applies far beyond politics…

The more I learn and read about Abraham Lincoln the more of a hero and role model he becomes in my eyes. Thank you AofM for posting this.

Vacation is over but the fun has just begun!

I’m sitting in the back of the car listening to country music and my wife and sister in law snoring. We’re on our way to Rocklin from the pier in Long Beach after a 7 day cruise. The trip was relaxing and refreshing but now it is time to face reality. It’s funny how easily the challenges and issues at home disappear when one leaves them behind on vacation. It’s a temporary feeling of freedom as if you were walking away from life’s strongholds forever.

I am certainly refreshed and ready to start a new chapter in life. There are several large obstacles in my way concerning work for Tiffany and I. We have put our faith in God and are already seeing
great things happen.

Proverbs part 2

I was reading in Proverbs last week and I began noticing that Proverbs 10 there are were several scriptures dealing with the words of the righteous contrasted with the words of the wicked and the results of each one. My reading began in chapter 10 where the title is “Wise Sayings of Solomon”. Solomon was the son of David and king of Israel.

Here is a list of the scriptures that I found just in chapter 10.

10:6 – Blessings are on the head of the righteous; but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

10:11 – The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

10:13 – Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding, but a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding.

10:14 – Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

10:18 – Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.

10:19 – In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.

10:20 – The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is worth little.

10:21 – The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of wisdom.

10:31 – The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut out.

10:32 – The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.

From these scriptures it is clear to see the benefits of righteous words and the consequences of wicked words.

I am going to continue to search through the rest of Proverbs to find more scriptures that line up with these scriptures and will post what I find and learn.

Today has been a great birthday. It started off with a surprise from Tiffany, she took the day off so we could have some fun! We saw a movie, visited with some friends we haven’t seen in a long time and ended it with a party. Well the party is still going so the fun isn’t over. I appreciate good friends and family.

Proverbs 10

I’ve decided to go through Proverbs in the Bible and find all the scriptures that deal with the words we speak. I don’t have my paper in front of me but I found about 10 in Proverbs 10. Oh I forgot to mention I was starting in Proverbs 10 because the sub title is “Wise sayings of Solomon”.

Resolutions

I believe 2011 is going to be a great year. 2011 I think we will see greater growth, revelation and outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the church and abroad. We will also see greater wickedness, evil and hardship in life.

res·o·lu·tion [rez-uh-loo-shuhn] the act of resolving or determining upon an action or course of action, method, procedure, etc.

This year I am going to live by faith every day. That is my first resolution. My wife and wrote down a 2 page list of things that we want to see happen this year. They range from keeping the dishes from stacking up to owning our own businesses and a house.

I’m considering posting the list up on here and marking off the things that we see come to pass. We are posting the list up on the door so that every time we are walking out we can be reminded and can exercise our faith by confessing the Word.

Isaiah 55:8-11 – The Message

8 ”I don’t think the way you think. The way you work isn’t the way I work.” God’s Decree. 9 ”For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think. 10 Just as rain and snow descend from the skies and don’t go back until they’ve watered the earth, Doing their work of making things grow and blossom, producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry, 11 So will the words that come out of my mouth not come back empty-handed. They’ll do the work I sent them to do, they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.

As a natural man my thoughts and actions are not going to be the same as God’s. His ways are higher than mine because He knows everything that has happened, that is happened and that will happen in what we see as the future.

Here is a scripture that encourages me when I don’t know what to do.

John 16:13 – Amplified

But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].

In 2011 let it be known that the Waugh household is going to live by faith, confess the Word, love God and love people.

We are only a few days away from a new year and I hear
people talking about their new years resolutions and goals. In the
past I’ve been discouraged from writing down or pledging to carry
out any resolutions because they’re so easy to forget about. For me
it has been easy to say I’ll work out more, eat better, spend money
but have my habits stay the same. I’m going to exercise my faith
and say with confidence that I will set goals and see them through
this year. In previous years I set goals and have seen most come to
pass. One thing I didn’t do was to write it down and make a
plan.

Washington D.C. Victory Campaign

Now, what about 2011? What is in store? What is God saying about it? It will be a time of changes. It’ll be the best of times and it’ll be the worst of times. The biggest amount of change will come in the harvest…what is harvest to one man is judgment to another one ’cause both of them are the manifestations of seed. Seed grows up and becomes. And when the wages of sin, or the harvest of sin, is death—you just stay with it and it’ll kill you. Amen. The sower sows the Word. Well the harvest of that is abundance and plenty—hundredfold return. And here’s what I heard the Lord say:

For those who insist on compromising The Word—insist on it…. (I’m not talking about the world, I mean that’s what they do all the time.) Sinners sin, you understand? That’s what they do best. But I’m talking about people who have an allegiance to the Lord Jesus Christ, born-again children of God who continue and insist on compromising The Word: “Ah, yes, Brother Copeland, I know the Bible says that but you just don’t understand my situation,” “Ah, yes, Brother Copeland…yes, I know the Bible says that but you know, I believe it’ll be all right with the Lord.” Those who insist and persist in disobedience and the compromising of The Word…whatever you compromise to keep, you will lose it. And the difference is, in 2011, in many cases, it’ll be taken from you right before your eyes. And of course it’s not God who takes it from you, it’s the devil. He’s the thief. He comes to steal, kill and destroy. God’s not taking things away from you. The devil takes them and blames it on God. He’ll get preachers to preach that to you, but it isn’t true. Now for those who insist on keeping the love commandment at any price, and those who insist on living by faith and giving God praise and glory, everything is going to be ALL-Right. That’s what I heard the Lord say. Everything is going to be ALL-Right. Every Thing…ALL-Right. It’s going to right-en up, straighten up. Don’t look to other things. Don’t look to the government for your supply. Don’t look to other people for your supply. No, no…pastors, don’t look to your congregations for your supply. Jesus is our source, hallelujah. The blessing of Abraham is our supply, praise God. The Word is our supply. Amen.

Now, to walk in that, whoa my goodness…. You’re going to have to pay attention. You’re going to have to listen on purpose. Take time to pray and listen to God. Jesus said, “I only say those things I hear My Father say, and I only do those things I see My Father do.” Now that should be all of us the same way. Not what we see someone else do or hear someone else say. We take a message someone preaches, we take the written Word of God as the very words of Jesus, the very Word of the living God, amen. It is God speaking to me, but there are moments and times when you need to just hush and quit trying to make up and do all your praying on your own, and be quiet and say, “Sir, what should I say at this moment? What should I do? My ears are open and my eyes are open. I’m listening.”
